Welcome, new Bruins! Make your transition from high school to college smoother by following this list of important dates and deadlines for new students entering UCLA.
Step 1 (January): Accept admission, apply for Honors and housing

You’ll need your UCLA ID Number from your admit letter. Your Logon ID and password will be your key for logging in to secure sites at UCLA. Activate your Logon ID.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
If you filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California DREAM Act Application on or before April 2, you will be able to access information about financial aid and scholarships awarded to you at UCLA, when it becomes available.
You’ll need your UCLA Logon ID to view your Provisional Award Letter (PAL) information. Your PAL is not expected to be available until the end of April or early May due to FAFSA delays. Some scholarships may be reflected on your first PAL, while others may be offered on subsequent award notifications.
California residents can utilize the University of California Net Price Calculator to estimate costs and financial aid.

You must meet the conditions stated in the Admission Contract before your admission becomes official.
A copy of your Admission Contract was included with your letter of admission. You can also view your contract on the MyApplication Statuswebsite.
If, after reviewing the contract, you find that you won’t be able to meet one or more of the provisions (especially if any of the course information you reported to us has changed or you received poor grades), please immediately follow the steps for reporting changes. -
You must review the University of California’s immunization requirement before submitting your Statement of Intent to Register. If you do not complete the requirement, an academic hold may be placed on your account.

Get housing information and the application.
Housing application deadlines:
- Spring: First come, first served; based on space availability
Late applicants will be on a lottery wait list and offered housing based on availability. For more information, go to Ask Housing.

The UCLA Honors Program is offered through the UCLA College. Although the other schools (Engineering; Arts and Architecture; Music; Nursing; and Theater, Film and Television) don’t currently offer a formal honors component, students in these schools can take honors courses offered through the College.
How to apply

At this point, please accept (or decline) your offer of admission. Students admitted close to this deadline will have 3 days from the date on their letter of admission.
Step 2 (January): Enroll in classes, supply needed information

Contact New Student Academic Programs as soon as possible.

Take a moment to report changes in your academic record or mailing address for first-year and transfer students.

International students should request I-20 or DS-2019 forms to obtain F-1 and J-1 student visas.

Check the enrollment schedule for your appointment time, and review the General Catalog and Schedule of Classes for information on courses, major requirements, and enrollment.

Math Diagnostic Test
If you plan to enroll in Math 1 – Pre-Calculus, Math 3A – Calculus for Life Science Students, Math 31A – Calculus and Analytical Geometry, or Math 31AL – Differential and Integral Calculus Laboratory, you must take the online Math Diagnostic Test at least two weeks before their enrollment pass.
Students should take the Math Diagnostic Test under the following conditions:
- Students who do not have AP credit or other course credit for Math 1, Math 31A, Math 31A, or Math 3AL
- Students who are waiting for UCLA to receive their AP test scores or other course credit
- Students who have AP credit or other course credit for any of these courses, but wish to repeat course(s) at UCLA
(please note that repeating the course means no grade or unit credit and a permanent transcript notation)
Each student who takes the diagnostic test through ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL) will be charged a $20 fee (non-refundable) upon logging in, which covers 12 months of access to the Prep and Learning Module.
Taking the diagnostic test does not grant additional credit or remove credit that is already awarded by UCLA Admission.
Chemistry Diagnostic Test
If you plan to enroll in Chemistry 17, Chemistry 14A, Chemistry 14AE, Chemistry 20A or Chemistry 20AH you must take the online Chemistry Diagnostic Test.
There is no charge for taking this examination and the results are advisory, not mandatory.
Step 3 (March): Prepare for classes

Make sure to send us official transcripts and test scores through Winter 2023.

Take a moment to apply for parking.

Pay the amount due for parking.

Pay the amount due for tuition and other fees.

All students are required to be enrolled in a qualified health insurance plan in order to register at UCLA. Undergraduates are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) unless they waive the coverage.

All incoming first-year students must demonstrate their command of the English language by fulfilling the Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR). Admitted students from California high schools who have not satisfied this requirement must complete the Informed Placement Process (IPP). The IPP was previously known as the Analytical Writing Placement Exam.
Results of the IPP won’t affect your admission to UCLA. Those who don’t pass the exam can still satisfy the ELWR before enrolling or during their first quarter at UCLA. -
Make an appointment to pick up your BruinCard the first weeks of class.

All incoming students must go through a mandatory education program that covers topics including alcohol use, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. The requirement includes an online module and a live presentation.
Students who don’t attend New Student Orientation will have the opportunity to attend a make-up session in the spring quarter to satisfy the in-person presentation requirement.
